Toyota will invest in the Guanajuato plant.
The Japanese brand will invest in the plant located in Apaseo el Grande as it seeks to expand its production capacity for the following years, this is where its Tacoma model pick-up is produced, so it will generate new jobs directly and indirectly.
This plant started its activities in 2020 and with only 8 months it has already achieved its first reinvestment and expansion of its production capacity. At the beginning, this plant was destined to produce the Corolla, but it was decided that instead of this model it would be the Tacoma, since its success has caused Toyota to decide to invest an additional 170 million dollars to the 700 million that it initially allocated.
With this investment, it is intended that the productive capacity of the plant goes from 100,000 to 138,000 units per year starting in 2022, and it will also generate 500 direct jobs.
Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, Governor of Guanajuato, said he was happy with the announcement and stressed that this is one of the benefits that the state is generating as a result of the new T-MEC. He took the opportunity to congratulate Toyota for trusting in Guanajuato and taking advantage of the possibilities that this state offers with the T-MEC.
Currently, about 1,000 people work at this plant, but another 10,000 indirectly benefit from it due to the enormous production and supply chain generated in the automotive supply of the Bajío region.
